The E-Learning Unit of the Faculty of Languages & Translation will launch the 12^th E-Learning Awareness Campaign for Level 1 students of the English Department and the English Language Center from Sunday, February 11 to Thursday, February 15, 2018, between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.

The campaign aims to make Level 1 students as well as the faculty members aware of the necessary and effective use of the university's learning management system. During the campaign, the E-Learning Unit will carry out the following activities:

• Meeting students individually in their classroom after informing their instructors,
• Organizing workshops for students in the e-learning labs,
• Setting up an e-learning stall and distributing brochures and booklets, and
• Holding a workshop for the faculty members

Placement Test Dates for Registered Candidates in the Intensive English Program  

Upon the directives of the University Rector and in cooperation with the Faculty of Languages and Translation, the University Vice-Presidency for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research will hold an Intensive English Language Program. Abstracts of the Webinar

This webinar focuses on several useful techniques for improving key aspects of the English pronunciation of Arabic speaking L1 students in academic courses. One innovative feature of the webinar is that the techniques presented all involve the systematic use of gesture in promoting learning and memory for new pronunciation. The webinar also has features of a workshop in that participants get to experience the techniques and discuss just how the procedures might be implemented in their classrooms. After the webinar, access to video models of the techniques demonstrated will be made available for asynchronous viewing. Prior to the webinar, participants will be given a short "homework" assignment to better prepare themselves for understanding the research base of the method and key activities.

Introduction

Under the supervision of the Dean, Dr. Abullah Al-Melhi, the Faculty of Languages and Translation in partnership with the British Council and the Deanship of e-Learning will hold an online training course via the KKUx Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) platform. The course will be convened on 12/10/2017 and end on 01/09/2018. It will uncover tips and techniques to help candidates successfully pass the IELTS exam with a satisfactory band according to ability. Skill Description

Speaking and writing are referred to as productive skills. A person with good speaking and writing skills will be able to make themselves clear to the addressee(s). A student with poor speaking and writing communication abilities, however, may fail to get their message across to others which necessitates their staying remote from others. In other words, for communication to take place efficiently, there are three pre-requisite conditions: sender of a message, receiver of a message and a means of communication. The sender and receiver of the message are meaningless with no effective means of communication. Academically speaking, no full justice can be done to a test/ an exam with low proficiency in speaking and writing. IELTS is no exception. In short, sound communication skills in speaking and writing are the key to effective communication of all aspects, academically and personally.

Skill Details

An attempt will be made to improve the participants' competence and proficiency in speaking and writing skills in general. Apart from this, they will be exposed to sample IELTS speaking and writing tests. They will also be trained to use right test-taking strategies which should come in handy when sitting an IELTS Test.

The Faculty of Languages and Translation (Female Section) announces a competition, "Reading Challenge" from 20/1/1439 to 7/2/1439. This competition aims to make students read books and courage them to write and explain their ideas. Awards will be distributed to the winners.
