New Approaches to Building Online Courses in Blackboard

  On February 5, 2020, under the supervision of Vice Dean for Academic Development and Quality, Dr. Abdulrahman Almosa, E-Learning Supervisor, Bachelor of Arts in English program, Mohsin Khan, delivered a university-wide webinar titled 'Using Blackboard to Build Online Courses'. The webinar, organized by the Tamkeen team at the Deanship of E-Learning, aimed to explore the effective use of Blackboard and expose participants to the important tools of Blackboard. Approximately 170 faculty members from the numerous faculties registered for the webinar.   Mr. Khan provided an introduction to and the best practices of: Blackboard course management tools; The Fundamentals of building online courses using the QM Rubric; Creating quizzes, tests and assignments; Using the discussion board, announcement and start here content areas; Creating online sessions using Blackboard Collaborate Ultra.   The Faculty of Languages and Translation is dedicated to providing specialized training and services to all faculties. The webinar was an overall success and will continue successively in future webinars as a part of the Tamkeen Team efforts. 13th E-Learning Awareness Campaign

Under the patronage of Dean, Dr. Abdullah Al-Melhi and the supervision of the Vice Dean for Academic Development and Quality, Dr. Mohammed S. Assiri, the E-Learning Unit of the faculty organized the “13th E-Learning Awareness Campaign” for level 1 students from Sunday, September 16, 2018, to Thursday, September 20, 2018. Mr. Abdullah Al-Rezgi, ELC director, accompanied the E-Learning Unit Team during the awareness campaign in some of the e-learning labs. He helped students in Arabic translation wherever it was required. Dr. Munassir Alhamami, English department chair, appreciated the efforts of the E-Learning Unit. Mr. Mohsin Raza Khan, e-learning unit supervisor, explained that the awareness campaign organized numerous training workshops for students in the labs and contacted them in their classrooms while providing informative guides to students who were unable to attend any of the workshops. "The campaign encouraged students to use Blackboard effectively. We included an e-quiz competition for students to get them motivated," said Khan. Assiri, Vice Dean for Academic Development & Quality, said that these are the types of activities that help students attain academic excellence. Dr. Munassir Alhamami, Chairman, accompanied the E-Learning Unit team during the awareness campaign in some of the classes. Dr. Munassir provided simultaneous translation wherever it was required.    Mr. Mohsin Raza Khan, FLT E-Learning Unit Supervisor, said that the awareness campaign aimed to make level 1 students aware of the necessity and practical use of the King Khalid University E-Learning system (Blackboard).  "To achieve the aim of the campaign, students were contacted individually in their respective classrooms. An e-learning booth was set up, and e-learning brochures and booklets were distributed," said Mr. Khan. Furthermore, he stated, "The Campaign encouraged students to use Blackboard effectively. We were excited that students actively participated in the campaign."
