English Club Sponsors Award Ceremony Recognizing Extracurricular Learning Efforts

On the 6th of December, members of the English Club presented various certificates of appreciation and awards to numerous faculty members and students. Teachers were honored for their extraordinary efforts in helping to develop the students' mastery of the English language. Many students were recognized for their efforts in creating and executing the programs. The English Club thanked Dean Abdullah Al-Melhi, Vice Dean Yahya Asiri, and Chairman Munassir Alhamami for making the extracurricular programs and the awards ceremony possible. Student Activities Director, Khalid Al-Qasemi, explained that English language immersion events sharpens student language skills and strengthen the bonds among students, teachers, and staff. English Club President, upper-level student Abdulaziz Al-Shahrani, closed the event by thanking and congratulating all of the participants and supporters. Humor in Mark Twain's Fiction: A Seminar Presentation by Dr. Mohammad Osman and Certificate Award Ceremony

On April 25, 2018, the Language Research Center of King Khalid University organized a seminar that included a presentation by Dr. Mohammad Osman titled Humor is Mark Twain’s Fiction. Dr. Osman’s presentation highlighted the way humor was expressed in Mark Twain’s fiction. His presentation commenced with a brief introduction to the author with a Hemingway (1935) quote – “All modern American Literature comes from one book by Mark Twain called Huckleberry Finn.” He stated the fact that Twain’s style had a profound impact on American literature. Dr. Osman also explained the difference between humor and satire. Humor, he said, provokes laughter and provides amusement. Satire, he added, ridicules vices, abuses, and highlights shortcomings through sarcasm. Twain’s humor was expressed through his hilarious characters, dialogs, events, and words he chose, said Dr. Osman. He concluded that Twain is usually remembered as perhaps the most celebrated writer in all of American Literature. That's how he was mainly valued in his day, and that's how he tends to be valued today as well. After the seminar, there was a Certificate Award Ceremony in which all the seminar presenters of the academic year 1438-39 were honored with certificates. Alhamami Wins King Khalid University's Academic Excellence Award

Dr. Munassir Alhamami, assistant professor, was honored for excellence and achievement in research, service, and extracurricular activities at an awards ceremony held earlier this week. In support and recognition of academic excellence, Rector Al-Solamy congratulated Alhamami for the significance of his contributions and the long-term impact of his research during his time at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.  Conferred by the Office of the University Vice Presidency for Academic Development and Quality, the Excellence Awards program recognizes faculty who exemplify a commitment to enhancing the university experience for their peers and colleagues. Dr. Abdullah Al-Melhi Receives Award

King Khalid University Rector, His Excellency Prof. Falleh R. M. Dean Al-Melhi has worked towards improving the quality of the learning environment for students in a variety of ways:      - Employing the Quality Matters Rubric in Courses      - Innovative Leadership      - Blended Learning      - Innovative New Learning Products      - Outstanding use of New Technology      - Educational Training Programs and Campaigns The use of educational programs and campaigns by the Faculty of Languages and Translation goes hand in hand with the Tamkeen program which is primarily concerned with training teachers and students alike on e-learning programs, e-tests, and e-courses. The meeting concluded with a keynote speech delivered by Rector Al-Solamy, in which he notably articulated that, "We at King Khalid University concentrate our aspirations and future plans in the field of e-learning because that will contribute to the success of King Khalid University." Five speakers had presented their papers during the first semester of the academic year 1436-37. Certificates were awarded to the following esteemed presenters: Mr. Mohsin Raza who had spoken about E-Course Design with Special Reference to Quality Matters Rubric Mr. Eyhab Bader Eddin for the presentation titled Pragmatic Equivalents in Translation Dr. Ali Alamir for the presentation based on his research study called Social Presence of Saudi EFL Students during their Online Interactions in Forums Ms. Najlaa A. Al Asbali for the presentation based on her project called An Investigation into Some Semantic Problems Inherent in the Translation of the Holy Quran  Mr. Mohammad Siraj who had shared his ideas about Effective Online Teaching Dr. Nurul Islam for his presentations titled World Englishes and How to Avoid Plagiarism.  There were five more speakers who had given presentations during the second semester. Certificates were awarded to the following esteemed presenters: Mr. Salahud Din Abdul Rab for his presentation on NLP and Speed Language Learning Dr. Fahad Otaif for the presentation  based on his research paper titled Metaphorical Framing of Media Discourse and the Representation of the Other Mr. Erich Beer for sharing his ideas about English-teaching-related Application of Microsoft Excel, Blackboard, and WhatsApp Dr. Nisar Ahmed Koka for his presentation titled Cross-cultural Communication and Subsequent Diffusion of Loanwords: A case of Arabic-Kashmiri Linguistic Borrowing  Dr. Mohammad Osman for the presentation titled Short Stories – a Source of Learning English as a Foreign Language (EFL) for Beginners.
